Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The Schwalbe Aerothan tube is the ultimate lightweight inner tube (only 61 grams) for your road bike.
- The aluminium valve increases durability and compatibility.
- The inner tube is compatible with allroad and gravel tyres.
- Thanks to the elasticity of the material, the Aerothan is highly puncture and snakebite resistant.
- The Aerothan tube is much smaller than a butyl inner tube - an ideal size for a back pocket or saddle bag!
- For tyre inflation, the Schwalbe Clik valve requires a pump head adapter. If you don't have one at hand and urgently need to inflate the tyre, you can also use a Presta head.

The Schwalbe SCV17-AE inner tube redefines inner tubes as we have always known them! By using an entirely new type of plastic, Schwalbe has managed to bring together the most opposite properties of an inner tube: low rolling resistance, low weight and high puncture resistance. Thus, Aerothan inner tubes offer both the puncture resistance of butyl inner tubes and the rolling resistance and weight of latex inner tubes.
The Schwalbe SCV17-AE inner tube was specially developed for use on road bikes, where every second and every gram counts. It is compatible with wider road bike tyres, up to 32 mm widths. With two Schwalbe SCV17-AE tubes you can easily shed 100 grams compared to butyl tubes without reducing puncture resistance. Plus, in extreme conditions the Schwalbe SCV17-AE is also highly reliable.
Compact size
Not only is the Schwalbe SCV17-AE a lot lighter than comparable butyl inner tubes but also a lot more compact because the material is less thick than butyl. This makes the Aerothan easy to carry as a spare tube in your saddle bag or jersey pocket. If you want to take even less with you, you can also repair the Aerothan on the road using Schwalbe's Glueless Patches, which you simply stick onto the Aerothan without sanding. Before applying one, make sure the inner tube is clean.
Aluminium valve
To increase durability, the valves in the Aerothan inner tubes are now made of aluminium. The valve has a removable valve core to ensure compatibility with Schwalbe Clik valves.
Material improvements
Schwalbe has collaborated with BASF to completely revise the Aerothan to meet all the specific requirements of an inner tube. For example, the thermoplastic polyurethane material now has excellent heat resistance, and its elasticity and durability ensure excellent puncture resistance. If attacked by sharp objects, the Aerothan will stretch along thanks to its high resilience and unique tensile strength, greatly reducing the risk of pinch flats. Another advantage of the Aerothan is that it cannot burst while cycling. This means you will never suddenly lose control of your bike due to the air escaping from your tyre all at once. The gradual deflation of the Aerothan allows you to come to a stop safely.
